Finally I finished with the first 1000 KM, er, 600 miles (you people need to start using the metric system )

Now I noticed a couple of things:
The first thing which is most noticeable is that there are a lot more vibrations even in RPM that previously there were none (relatively).

The second thing is that there's bloody oil everywhere!
the tube that comes out of the air box had a small amount of oil in it after a short ride and I found oil dripping on the bike, mostly on the right side (and it's visible on the radiator as well).
My guess is that either the mechanic didn't close the oil dip-stick all the way, or that he filled too much oil.

In the mean while I emptied the tube from the air box, tightened the dip-stick and wiped off the bike. hopefully that will fix it or I'll have to head back to the dealer.

The mecanoid didn't have the right kind of funnel! He needs one with a tube on the bottom - otherwise oil does indeed go everywhere, except maybe for the hole it is intended for.

The drain tube should have been emptied at service... tut tut tut...

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I am no mechanic, but below is just my experience so take it however you want it:

Try to get a service manual (not owners' manual) and tighten all the screws/bolts you can find on the handlebar, fork, and tank to the torque specifications. That's the thing, there are so many torque specs that I think they are meant for something. It helped me tremendously in minimizing vibrations.

I think you guess it right. In the owners' manual, there is a specific way to fill up the oil, so keep an eye on that when you do it yourself. The oil in the tube is normal, especially you do some high speed for a sustained period of time. No need to be concerned, just empty it once in a while.

After my 600mile service I ended up with oil all over my right leg a few miles after leaving the dealers.The muppet who serviced it must have spilt oil all over the radiator and frame only for it to blow back once moving.

That will be the one and only time I use a dealer for servicing and that was because it was free.

Funny enpugh i noticed oil all over the right side yesterday after my spin ,bike is new and only now going in for a first service ,should they change the seals or something ?

Beware: when oil is changed(with filter) 2,6lt is needed! Not 2,9lt., that's the total capacity of the oiltank. And indeed, watch for the o-ring on the dipstick, also lost mine but found it again, happily!

I haven't been to the dealer yet since it's a holiday here now, and I recon that I won't visit them again until the 10K service.
I had to drive 300 Km yesterday and it seems that the vibrations had stopped (maybe I was just overly aware, since the bike just went got back from the dealer) and there's no more oil spilling on the bike.

The only thing that remained is the oil in the drain tube.
Which I understand is quite normal when riding at high speeds for a prolonged time.
If that's the case, then all is good.

O, and unfortunately I have to go to the dealer (or one of the authorizes mechanics) for servicing since if I want to keep the warranty. So I'm stuck with them.

I ride 450 motorway miles a week and hadn't cleared the oil in my drain tube for a few thousand miles. I did it last night and pretty much filled a jam jar with oil. Not all that bad really, especially as the bike hardly uses any oil otherwise in normal operation.

Oil in your airbox drain tube is normal for a xt.
