we did the D-day beaches last year, had a great trip. Are you going for the 6th June? thats when we went and it really made the trip - all the WW2 vehicles everywhere and the aircraft.

we stayed one night at a campsite east of Saint-Mere-Eglise right next to Utah beach at a place called Ravenouville-Plage. Don't camp there. However the Crisbecq Battery at Saint-Marcouf is well worth a visit.

Our next two nights were here http://www.chateau-martragny.com/index.htm
a nice campsite site with a decent restaurant and well located for touring the other landing beaches and other stuff. you can camp or stay B&B in the chateau.

overall we found that the beaches themselves were less interesting than the other stuff, there's no shortage of things to see.

I've done the Route Napoleon several times, it's a great road to ride, much cornering and beautiful mountain roads. If you got the time, also try the Gorges du Verdon, even more beautiful scenery and ridin'! On camping I can't help you out, but for hotels there's a lot of choice, from cheap to more expensive. Good luck and have fun!
