Urgent help and advice sought

my Girfriend and I are nipping over to france on Monday, travelling mainly on the motorway. Can anyone tell me if they have had experience of using the oxford type throwover panniers on an XT with standard exhausts please. They are resting against the the plastic heat shield and they do not seem to get hot enough to cause too many problems.

I did not purchase the Oxford first time panniers, but have bought Heine Gericke ? mid range pannier set ( 55) as they have heat protection on the bottom and the side.

Has anyone had heat problems from their cans on fabric panniers? My local Yamaha Dealers Webbs in Peterborough cautioned me from using fabric panniers on the XT, due to heat, and the high leverl pipes many thanks dave
