Urgent help and advice sought
 

my Girfriend and I are nipping over to france on Monday, travelling mainly on the motorway. Can anyone tell me if they have had experience of using the oxford type throwover panniers on an XT with standard exhausts please. They are resting against the the plastic heat shield and they do not seem to get hot enough to cause too many problems.

I did not purchase the Oxford first time panniers, but have bought Heine Gericke ? mid range pannier set ( �55) as they have heat protection on the bottom and the side.

Has anyone had heat problems from their cans on fabric panniers? My local Yamaha Dealers Webbs in Peterborough cautioned me from using fabric panniers on the XT, due to heat, and the high leverl pipes many thanks dave

Hi,

I used a set of Oxford Sport throw overs on the original exhausts (2008) for a weekend ride to Mallory Park and back (a few hundred miles). I had no problems the panniers rested on the black covers and weren't damaged at all when I got back.

Hi, thanks for ther reply, I have removed the stubby carbon cans this morning, and fitted the original yamaha ones back on. Mainly due to mates being pulled over by the frog police. When you say resting on the black panels? My XTX is an 04 , do you mean the plastic heat protectors on the exhausts, I have taken teh bike for a blast this morning. And whilst the pastic leg protectors do get " quite warm" their temperture does not get into silly figures. i.e. I can still touch them comfortably. Any help appreciated. I suppose i'm being a little over cautious, but it's my first time overseas on the bike. Cheers Dave

Thats right, mine rested completely on the exhaust covers and they never got hot enough to cause any damage to the paniers.

XT 600 really can fly
 

No Worries - thankyou - I have been out and tested them inbetween heavy showers, all ok - apart from above 70mph the panniers decided to try and flap like two wings, they didn't touch the exhausts at all, i have run straps under the wheel arch, and they are now secure. Thanks Again

They will sag a little when fully loaded and after going over bumps & dips.

Ive never used the panniers on the XT but use to use them on my 250. Just make sure to get as many bungee cords on as possible (make sure you get one on the rear foot pegs) or you could feel the panniers moving around. I made sure mine where bungeed down tight and went for a highspeed run to test them and got to 100mph and they where fine.

If you run the straps under the saddle they will not move at all.
