Big crunch, rear wheel locked...engine still works

Got pretty scared this morning when I heard a few nasty crunching noises and my rear wheel lock! Luckily didn't drop it and came to a stop, killing the engine with the switch.
Was recovered and the garage thinks it's something fairly serious inside the gearbox and they'll need to rebuild the engine...potentially costing me 1000. Just looking for advice really on what to do. The bike is a 59 plate XT660X with 16k miles, good condition with aftermarket exhausts. My two options are - Pay whatever the bike shop quotes me (800-1000) - Part ex it at a Yamaha dealer in its current state (not sure on value of bike but they did quote 2000 part ex value about 6 months ago). I'm desperately hoping it's nothing too serious but unfortunately looks like it could be, I appreciated any advice. |
