Engine tuning

Hello,

I'm starting to feel that my xt 660 feels a tiny bit underpowered (Hp/torque wise) for my driving. I really like the torque of the bike but it feels like there is no power up top.

My driving:
Wheelies are a large part of my driving, i also like to do hard accelerations.
Now when i graduated i don't use the bike for commuting, so most of the time when im out riding, the bike runs hard (wheelies, Full throttle etc.).

My bike:
Yamaha XT660X 2007 with 40,000km on the clock
Stage 1+2 Filters
Slipons (straight through style)
Power commander V
02 Optimizer
Dynojet Autotune

I'm wondering what the next step in tuning is.
I've been thinking about :

big bore (couse the milage) Seems to cost 700euro (OTR) 104mm

Stage 1 cam.

Building a stage 3 filter setup.

Turbo conversion, aiming for 80hp on the wheel in that case.

Otr header

What do you guys think is the best way to go? I've spent a lil bit too much money to sell the bike.

Hope someone can give me advise.
Best regards, Victor

People have turbo xts! but not many follow up after installation.

I think it will cost around 1000euro

There is a photo in the gallery somewhere of an XT (may of been an X) with a turbo on it. Not being much of a performance modifier myself, if I was in you shoes I would be inclined to join the forum as an XT660 Supporter then for your 10 pound you would be able to ask Kev all the questions you need as he has done all sorts of things to XT's including Big Bore kits followed up with many hours on Dyno's to.

Good luck with it all.

Cool

11.5:1 Piston (helst CP TECH kolv)

English:
Hello, hope all is well with you! if i guess it right, we were the only XTs on epic meet in Vsters?
I think I would get below parts for my bike, and probably will when I can afford ..
To obtain a durable engine with more power without tuning it too much.

OTR Racing Head Pipe XT-660
Big bore cylinder 102mm (can be drilled almost by anyone, Nikasil you send to langcourt in England to get it done)
11.5: 1 Piston (preferably CP TECH piston)
Head Reporting (if one can afford it get it properly done and fixe new valves and valve seats, the budget one is to just clean up and fizz a little)
throttle body bore (MAXbore make it good and cheap)
I wouldn't touch the camshaft to keep the low torque.

Know that you already have DNA 1-2 and autotune, it might work, but you have the time and desire to build a Stage 3 so you can feel free to build one for me

I know the XT660 is a cool bike. But to be honest if you want to do wheelies and hard acceleration. There are better options. Better sell it and get a KTM 690 Supermoto and be happy. Problably the costs and especially the time will be much higher to invest into tuning the XT than getting another bike. The KTM 690 is lighter and has plenty of power, plus you will be driving a road legal bike. I know you have invested lot of money and time into the bike. But sometimes its time for a change . Plus with 40000km on the clock its still possible to get a decent amount of money when you sell it. With more than 50000km it will get harder to sell the bike.

Hello, missed your answer...

Are you going to attend to epic meet the 24/9?
Im going there.

I'm really in the mood for turbo, I've for a long time wanted to turn something into forced induction and it's a lot cheaper to build on the bike rather than my car, and in case you blow up the motor, there is replacements available.

that will be a winter project tho.

I've started studying again so I have a quite small budget.

Best regards, victor

My uncle has a Ktm 690smcr -14, I don't like that bike, maybe it's to perfect for me

I dont like the powerband of the Ktm, nor how it feels when doing wheelies,
It's to easy, balance point seems to be significantly lower than the xt, and you can basically save any wheelie by cranking the throttle

The xt got some real bottom end torque that the 690 misses, however the 690 is extremely fast on the top end.

Best regards, Victor

Two questions for you, 1: what front end / forks are you running?

2: any more interest or action into the turbo setup?
