what rider's weight suspension sag is set for?
do you know what are the default for xt660z, factory settings?
Wonder if I have to adjust mine sag. I heard most bikes suspensions are set for 180lb rider. I am 230lb so would need to adjust it in that case, but from riding experience so far on tenere suspension feels OK. |

Generally speaking on bikes with long travel suspension you want to try and set the preload so you use around 33% of the total travel for rider (or dynamic) sag. On the Z that roughly equates to about 65-70mm up front and 60-65mm at the rear. Obviously the number of clicks/turns front and rear depends entirely on your own weight. I always tend to set the dynamic sag in full gear and with half a tank of fuel on board.
I found when the Tenere was new this was easy to achieve for me, an 85Kg geared-up rider, but as the bike aged and the "made of cheese" OE Sachs shock spring started to tire it became harder and harder (or rather softer and softer ), up until the point a new spring/shock was required at about 12K miles. If you're heavier, then the shock spring is likely to reach the point of no return even sooner! |
