I have been reading about xt660's not running right with ngk irridium plugs, is this true??

Should i stick with the standard ngk plugs?

Its for a 2005 xt660x

Most of the kerfuffle about iridium plugs was/is due to the fact there are an awful lot of fake ones out there, particularly on ebay.

A proper NGK iridium plug won't be a problem.

Having said that, I've tried iridium plugs on my Ten and they don't make a blind bit of difference as far as I can tell. Just remember that iridium plugs are often miss-marketed as a "performance" plug, but what they actually mean is that they just last longer because they have a more resilient tip so takes longer to wear away. The only reason iridium plugs exist is to prolong service intervals.

The reason i purchased irridium plugs is because when i had them on a 2 stroke it helped start the bike. I know i will not feel a difference in performance if there was any. But i know the plugs i have are ligit.

Some folk say that smaller central electrode and the fact the iridium coating provides a microscopically smoother surface makes iridium plugs less prone to fouling on a 2-stroke, so I can see where you're coming from. However, changing to a different heat range of standard plug would probably have the same effect.

On a 4-stroke that is fuelled and running correctly fouling is unlikely to be an issue. However, there are a few members here who have gone one grade hotter and reported better performance?

the idea behind Iridium spark plugs is to give the very long service
intervals that moden motors can have..... they are not man't as a
performance item...

I ran them, well, er, it! on my TTR for the same reason - it made starting easier. And with a rubbish battery, easy starting was important.

I guess if you are in a place with questionable fuel, then an iridium plug could be the difference between a quick getaway, and a long push !! But I wouldn't put one in in the UK, I just can't see a point.
