XTR biggest improvement - sintered pads or braided hoses
Hey chaps
What I'd really like to do is to swap my XTR for a Duke 690 but with a 100 budget, I'm not quite there! ![]() So ... first thing to try to improve on the XTR are the hopeless brakes. So, what's the first thing to do, sintered pads or braided hoses? I'm looking for the biggest bang for my meagre bucks. Maybe it'll be pads AND hoses to get any real improvement? If anyone also has recommendations on particular products i.e. EBC sintered pads or Goodridge hoses, that would be good to hear. I plan to order all the bits up this week and next weekend turn my XTR from a foot-dragger into a stoppie monster. ![]() ![]() Thanks! |

EBC HH pads if you are riding on the road.

Fit a larger front rotor, slow up the fork dive will help in the braking department.

Hi I've got both installed but as I did everything at once I cannot say the difference with or without braided brake lines or sintered pads. On the other hand I am very pleased with the result. In fact you can stop pretty well using index finger only, two fingers is perfect.
If you can afford it change lines (Goodrich I have used) and pads and you will be happy. Now, as Kev mentioned fork dive is something to consider also. I have Hyperpro springs, which definitely help. The KTM enduro 690 is a fine bike but if I have to choose again I will take the Yammy. There is something in it. ![]() ![]() Try you will be surprised with the result.

Thanks assenvas.
To be honest, I'd probably have dived in and done both at once but it's the annual European tour in 3 weeks so I'm on a budget. It's not actually the 690 Enduro I'd like - I'm way too short for that - it's the 690 Duke road bike. I do love my XT, but as a road bike it's a bit too compromised at present. |

Sorry mate, overlooked the Duke bit. These are two absolutely different bikes.
Good luck with the European tour.

Do new pads, particularly HH pads, tend to bind a bit when new? If not, I might have a caliper problem again.
