Wind noise help.
Having just bought a z and done 250ish miles on it now I'm alarmed by the noise from the wind I'm getting of anything about 50mph, so what have others done to combat things ??
Standard screen at the moment btw. |

Different things suit different people... Taller screens, shorter screens, deflectors, spoilers or a combination of several. Blocking the air coming up round the forks and the front of the tank helps too.
All depends on how tall/short you are, how you sit, what risers you've got, what sort of speeds you ride at, helmet style/type and loads of other personal factors. Best thing you can do is get some stiff card and some gaffer tape and experiment with different heights, widths etc. See what works, and then either buy what's closest, or fabricate something yourself. I've tried loads of different things, and for me the winning formula seems to be: Reduce/disrupt the air coming up the front of the tank with spotlights and a handlebar bag, make the stock screen wider (with DIY deflectors), but keep the same height and add a deflector on the top. It's not perfect, even for me, but after nearly seven years of tinkering, it's the best I've come up with so far... or it was till I fitted a higher seat and it all went wrong again! Here's my best/most successful attempt to date. Doesn't look pretty but it works (or rather did)... Experimentation is the best answer. If it's just the noise your bothered about, and no so much the buffetting, then just get yourself a decent set of ear plugs! |

+1. Wear earplugs if noise is an issue. I agree 100% about the racket if you don't. Bloody terrible.
I just ignore the buffeting. Except when following a vehicle, especially a truck, at highway speeds. Then the resulting instability and buffeting is tough to casual about. Never a boring bike, the Tenere. It requires some thought to ride, and get the best from it without thrashing its ring off imo. A bit like a big 250 single, really. Crosswinds, anyone? It is a shame that form came before function in the aero department, though. But it sort of works and you might get used to it. Nothing is perfect! Last edited by 66T; 29-04-15 at 15:53. |

Hi Cabby, as Pleiades says it's different for everyone. For me cutting down the screen by 3inch dealt with the buffeting. ..but still lots of wind noise. I also stiffened the peak on my crash helmet by Aralditing a thin strip of aluminum to it. And earplugs are a must...Pleiades put me onto some called Auritech, about 20, reusable. Pinlock do a similar thing. Steve

At first I thought it was my peaked helmet, went out again with my GT air shoei, just as bad, now fitted a handlebar bag and ordered some eves comb, so will see how that goes, then it'll be taller screen next I guess,

6ft 4 and I use a high metal mule screen. if I sit completely bolt up right I still get wind noise but if I lean forward or lower down a bit then I'm comfortable with standard wind noise
