picking a tenere up on your own
Hi folks the last time i had to pick up my tenere i really struggeled I could not get my fingers under the grab bars at the rear and the handle bars were very awkward. The bike was very flat to the floor and the back to the bike method was not possible as my arms are not long enough and one leg was temporarily out of action
. Luckily? a spectator was available and we managed to get my steed back upright. My god are these bike heavey!! I am currently thinking of some sort of strap I can clip on the rear bars and the handle bar so I can put it over my shoulder and use my legs to lift the bike.
how do you guys do it.

Picking up any bike even a motocross bike is hard, but it's all about what suits the rider. I'm tall so have to get my hand on the rear grab rail squat down beside the bike, grab the handle bar the. push with leg till the bikes half way up then after that I can use my arms/upper body.

I have to say I've never got on with the "back to the bike method" with any of the bikes I've had apart from the old GSA, but that never went down flat which made life much easier.
I find my backside gets in the way of getting a good grip on the bars and the grab handles with back to the bike. I feel much more comfortable doing it facing the bike, lifting, walking forwards leaning into the bike and using leg power, much as you would do in rugby training. I also find the muscles in my legs work better going forwards than backwards! In fact much the same way as Old Git Ray tackles his S10 in this video... |

lifting a tenere
Thanks guys I think the leaning forward over the bike and pushing with the legs is worth a try for me. I will have to have a practice session on a soft field somewhere. Is it possible to lift the bike purely by the handle bars or are you likely to bend the bars?

Get to the gym!!
I seem to remember being told to make sure the handle bars were on full lock towards the side you're on. Makes it more ridgid and easier or something. (never had a problem, i went to the gym!

I would say the bars should be in the direction your pushing so it cant turn while lifting

picking a tenere up on your own
Hi folks well i finaly found a nice soft bit of ground to practice picking my bike up on. First attempt was a failure couldnt get past 30 degrees, second attempt using brute strength and ignorance success but my back knew about it!! After a few minutes pondering I altered the angle of lift success! and much easier. a couple more lifts and I had finaly cracked it and it was surprisingly easy. The secret is stand facing the bike grab the handle bar which should be against the tank and grab the rear grab rail then leaning OVER the bike PUSH the bike away from you using your legs!! you lever it up rather than lift it. I really recommend practicing this because if it goes over off road and is at an awkward angle you will not be able to lift it on your own without this technique to fall back on.
