Hi Folks!
I just found out I probably have a smaller oil leakage. Lately I have had to add more and more oil to my bike after driving longer periods. Today I figured out the problem. There is coming tiny amounts of oil from the gear change shaft. I removed the gear changer, E-clip and washer. I found there is a rubber oil seal. What do you think about just changing this rubber sealing? Thanks a lot! |

Oh, I cleaned the axis in order to observe the leakage (if there is one).
I have used a type of chain oil that was quite "drippy" but I don't think it is the chain oil excess that has ben dripping. Do I have to empty the bike of oil before changing the seal? Or will the oil just piss out of the bike, through the opening? hehe Sorry for my bad english. |

I've got the Haynes manual and here's the picture. Looks like he is just pulling it out. The engine is off course stripped down when he took this picture but I from what I can see it will be possible from the "out side" ![]() Your thoughts? |

Tricky
In my experience of trying to remove one of those seals on my trials bike, it is very hard to do with the gear shift shaft in place. I tried all sorts and in the end had to take the engine casing off. But as Pepsi says, if you are committed to changing it, have a go at piercing it with something and hooking it out, but be prepared to pull the engine casing off if you don't succeed.

screw a self tapping screw into each side of the seal...
grap both screws with pliers and wiggle it out... can help to do it with the motor hot so the alloy case has exspanded slightly.... just lay the bike over so yer don't have to drain the oil even thow they are a dry sump motor there is quite a bit of oil in the sump... just measure the OD & ID of the seal.. go buy one.... bearing / engineering type places...

Yepp, tipping it on the side was one of my ideas. But I figured I'll to the full drain and filter change ether way. I will try the method by using two self tapping screws and pliers.

No worries, if you're careful you can change that seal without disassembly of anything.
After removing the old seal, clean the gear shaft with very fine emery paper making sure nothing falls into the seal area When you're fitting the new seal over the gear shaft and spline, be very careful of the new seal inside lip. Oil the shaft and the seal. Just my way of doing it. ![]() |
