Adventure spec bash plate

Just wondering what peoples experience with the adv spec bash plate? When the bike falls do you find that the bars hit the ground before the side of the tank or are they just there to protect the water pump area just in case. I'm in 2 minds about what protection to use because I pm reluctant to add another 10 kegs in engine bars at the side of the fairing.

I was thinking about the puig engine bars as they seem ideal but not sure which bash plates they're going to be compatible with.
Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Dan
