Hi. I'm sorry to barge in here as a non-XT rider, but I am trying to help a friend out who's in a difficult place - his father-in law died about a year ago leaving his 2 year old XT660R in a rather damp garage. His immediate family were obviously gutted and have been unable to deal with his bike until recently. Having been in the damp environment for year with out turning a wheel has not done the Yamaha any favours at all.
As I am a keen bike fettler with a good workshop my friend, Greg, asked me to get the bike up together so it could be sold. I have to say I am shocked at how rough it is for a three year old bike with under 5000miles to it's name. After fitting a new battery and removing the alarm that proved to be totally dead, I managed to get it to run so Incould warm up the engine to drop the oil out. I have never seen oil like it !!!!! I usually use photobucket to post pix on forums, but it's not playing ball on my iPad tonight so I have posted the link to my Dropbox - hope it works!

Do XTs ever dump water into their oil? Is there some thing I should be looking for as a cause? There doesn't seem to be any oil in the coolant that I could see. We're the head gasket leaking then I would have expected to see evidence of oil in the coolant. I asked my friend if it was used off road and as far as he is aware, it was mainly used as transport to work.
I mostly play with old air cooled Kawasaki Zeds, so I am a bit out of my comfort zone with this one.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Ralph
