how is this bike for longer trips?

I mean vibration and loudness at cruising speed?
I'm preparing for something like that soon and having a little bit concerns
about xt660z being single cylinder.

Mate I love my xtz I have a airhawk seat pad and can ride all day no worries. Its not going to compare to a bigger multi cylinder bike on long road trips. But it is the best on road/ off road bike being equally good at both. Most bikes r better or more suited to one but not my tenere it's a great bike for both.

Yea it's fine mate I have stock exhaust so not to loud. Vibration is fine at cruzing speed the bikes gearing is really tailored for cruzing speed so it helps. If u do more off road stuff, changing the rear sprocket bye 1 gives it a bit better off road gearing from what I've heard.

What exactly is your concern about the engine noise? Overall it is not really loud. It sounds like a single zylinder has to sound .

you know, I'll be riding at night from time to time so I don't want to wake up wild animals in the bushes

I've not done any long tours on mine. Longest was an evening ride about 400km of highway home from work with less than 10minutes breaks for refueling and "unloading" some water. Most was done at 110km/h

When i ride for fun the speed is lower and i'm not just sitting there for 4 hours ... There are vibrations but not so much that it is a problem for my hands, but the seat on my pony basically forces me in one position. Still considering the expensive option of having it reholstered with a higher and more level top enstead of the rider/passenger edge. Unfortunately the Kahedo seats are pretty expensive but if i was about to go for a loooong ride i would seriously consider it, before spending money on better suspension etc But 460€ can buy you a lot of sheepskins :-) http://shop.kahedo.com/Seats-Driver/...%7B6%7D31.html

Last year i did Ullapool to home in one go...641 miles in 12 hours with 3 fue and lool stops.

As long as you have a good lid the engine noise is not any issue...ever.

When i got my Tenere i had real problems with vibrations through the bars. This sorted itself out after the bike was run in...aroudn 5000 miles.

It is so smooth now that i get more vibraitons through my BMW K100LT..and that is a very smooth bike.

A few weeks ago i did a fast 390 miles getting to a ferry in spain. It took 6.5 hours door to door and i arrived tired but no worse than any other bike.

The seat of course is not great...i had a tough time with the OEM seat so bought a Touratech 400 seat..yes i know 400..while much better it eas a bit hard. I gave it 8000 miles and it did not give so i sent my OEM seat away to be reshaped and repadded.

Now it's sorted. I can ride for 3 hours none stop.

Finally make sure you sort out the screen..for me the OEM not tall enough so i bought a taller one but for some the short one is better.

Everytime i think about selling my Tenere i go for a ride and then decide i can't sell it.

Mike
