520 v 525 Drive Train - The definitive question !!!
I'm just in the process of preparing the R for it's next BIG Adventure - Darwin - Broome - Alice Springs - Melbourne. During the 30k service it was noted that the chain is developing some dead spots and the sprockets are showing some uneven wear. O/k so we definitely need a new drive kit
![]() BTW .. the existing set up is a 15t JT driving a 48t Supersprox Stealth through a DID VM chain. Now I'm kinda happy with the ratio but have been considering a 47 on the back to offset the l-o-n-g buzzy sections ![]() Now research would indicate a range of posts here about sprockets, gearing and chain specifications. The general consensus is that a 525 upgrade is a bit more expensive and slightly heavier but smoother running with a longer life and better reliability. However I'm wondering what anyone who's tried the 525 route can offer as feedback and especially whether they would fit another one ![]() At the moment I'd be looking at the OTR 525 kit.
