Newbie says hi and seeks advise
Hi Newbie from Brighton UK here. Going to look at xt660r 2011 with view to buying tomorrow. Any useful pointers for things I should look at or check carefully? Has the snatchy low speed fuelling been sorted by 2011? Many thanks

Hi finecitygirl, not much to check for these bikes are pretty sturdy, just look for general abuse, other than that crash damage, welcome to the forum.

![]() ![]() My biggest advice to you would be to make sure you are buying from a reputable dealer, I mean these bikes are pretty sound so it is easy to spot tell tale signs of wear and tear, inspect for rust on engine casing, check that the sprockets and chain are sound, you want to get some miles out them at least before you have to replace them during your service intervals. By all means take it for a test ride and see if you can feel a smooth engine, and that should be just about it. But as I've said if you buy from a reputable dealer, have a look at the terms of the warranty, what is and what is not covered and make sure that there is a return policy in case you either are not satisfied or something turns out to be wrong. For anything else once you are happy and you have got it, come back here for advice and support on anything related to these wonderful bikes, cause that's what we're here for. Enjoy and good luck |

Welcome aboard!!!! The XT660 is bullet proof and with a little love is good to go anywhere. Mine is a 2011 XT660X and I have applied some of the Kev mods and it goes GREAT!!!! Have fun.

Yeah...new bike!
So, the bike was in mint condition and hasn't even done 1,000 miles yet. A bash plate has been added + rack and top box. I test rode it and it seemed all ok except for some mild jerking and surging in second gear when I was trying to just keep the speed steady around 25 - 30 mph. Its still under warranty, so, I took a chance and bought it and I'm planning to get it into my local dealer to sort the fuelling. Hope I'm not being naive?
