613's & barkbusters?
Hi
ive ordered some Ranthal 613's to replace the standard (now bent) bars. just thought though...are my barkbusters going to fit? im sure these 613's arent going to be higer enough so i will (somehow) need add a small riser too. so im guessing the clutch and throttle cables wont reach so will have to send them to venhill. () so im guessing at Venhill they just swap the inners for longer ones? so there will be more inner cable showing at one end (as the outer will be the same length) clear as mud? |

Yes... the Barkbusters will fit fine.
The 613's are much higher than standard (25mm I think) bars (they are also a little wider), without fitting new throttle cables you will not get a riser in there. In order to get the 613's fitted you will need to re-route your throttle cables. So it's tank off time! the red line is the route your cables take today, you need to pull them back and re-route over the oil pipe, following the dotted blue line. This gives you enough cable to get the bars to full left hand lock with the 613's fitted.

that pics rings a bell...i was going to get 613's ages ago so maybe thats why ive seen it.
Well, they arrived today. hard to guage hight when there not on the bike but im convinced there still not going to be higher enough? as anyone had the clutch and throttle cabled lengthened? if so, by how much? cant get my head round how the clutch cable can be lengthened (if it need to be) without also doing the outer (so the whole cable)? |

The clutch cable should be long enough. Only the throttle cables are a little bit too short.

Venhill will do it for you, Ubberthumper had his done a while ago. Don't know how much or how long it took though....
If I were you, I'd try the bars first, it's not just the height, but the rise and sweep that changes. You *might* get away with a small riser, 10mm ??

Looked on the Venhill site but i think prices are for full custom cables and not alterations. Just wondering...has anyone changed the handle bar mounts? (the bits that stand up off the yokes dont know there proper name) |

Think it was about 70-80. It's a new cable inside and out, but you have to send them an original set which they take apart for the moulded plastic bits at the top, because they can't replicate them.
Before I added risers as well, I got away with the stock cables with 613s without even rerouting them. How tall are you? I'm around 6'3". Just the 613s was great for most stuff. I've got them a bit higher now which is even better for standing, but it's right on the edge of what is comfortable sitting down. Roll the bars as far forward in the clamps as you can before they hit the clocks on full lock. Gets them further from the pegs, which is what you are trying to do by raising them, and as a bonus, it stretches the cables a bit less.

im a TINY bit under 6'4" but seem to have quite a long upper body. i liked the bit where you said "I've got them a bit higher now which is even better for standing, but it's right on the edge of what is comfortable sitting down." i know exactly what you mean! when i first got the Ten, i rolled the bars forward and wacked on risers. When trail riding, and while stood on the pegs it was amazing! then the next ride included a long road bit.....yeah.....not so good sat down! (also, the controls feel weird) You have to find that balance. I did think about just carrying an Allen key and rolling the bars back a bit if i have loads of road work....so tailoring the bar postion to what im riding. BUT...keep undoing the bolts probably isnt a good idea is it? (wont they wear?) Basically i suffer from a neck/shoulder problem so i spend a lot of time (and ) getting my bikes to feel comfy....and im struggling with the Tenere. who knows...613's may be the answer, will hopefully find out Monday. I pray to god my dam Barkbusters will still fit! |

I'm the same. 34" inside leg, which isn't particularly long for someone my height (I don't think), but quite long in the back.
For me, having the bars a bit on the high side for sitting works quite well, because it forces me to ride with my elbows up, which is A Good Thing for racing. If you've got issues with your shoulders it might not be for you. The Barkbusters will still fit fine.

WEll, i now have the bars (not fitted though as im stuck decorating the living room
)
The OEM bars are tapped, and you screw in a reducer for the bark busters to bolt to. Renthals are not tapped SO.....i guess im going to have to tap them. ive tapped small holes before but nothing that big. I cant be the only one with 613's & barkbusters? what size tap do i need? (im not sure of the proper/enginnering methods for measuring things like this) |
