11 plate with 36k miles
Evening all - in my search for a Tenere, my local dealer (a decent dealer too) has just taken in an 11 plate one with 36000 miles on it. It's not in perfect condition but doesn't look too bad from the pictures and was apparently owned by a local bike instructor.
Aside from obvious things like giving the clutch a good slip test, are there things you well informed people would suggest I pay particular attention to given the mileage? Luggage (panniers), centre stand, new Maxxis road bias rubber, 18 months old �3650 with some bargaining room for cash. Many thanks - Stuart |

sounds like a good deal, maybe worth checking the cush drive rubbers as they are a week point.

Hardly worth worrying about mind is it ??? Seeing as how a cut up bit of inner tube sorts it out. Had to do it with my old Teneres and mine needs it doing on 2500 miles on this one !!

Wheel and carrier bearings are a few quid and easy to fit - but if you can get the dealer to do it, that's a result. The rear spring, it's the static sag that you will notice. Not worth replacing the spring with OE spring, cheaper and better option would be a HyperPro. Only around �80, but the fitting is a long-ish job. IF it were me, I'd offer to pay for the spring and ask them to cover the labour. On a '11 plate bike the regulator is unlikely to be an issue. I've a '08 bike (one of the first) that has never suffered this problem. It only breaks when moisture gets into the plug assembly, this results in overheating and the plug melts causing shorts and ultimately a failure. At 36k I wouldn't worry, if it was going to go , it would have by now. Very minor, but worth looking in the indicators, especially the back ones as water can get in resulting in dulling of the reflective surfaces. As I say, very minor but useful if you want to drive the price down. Registered in 2011, it may well still be under warranty. We have guys on here who have properly abused their Tenere's, and the bikes are still going.

I would deffo go for it as the bike is so recent PROVIDING it has a service history at a decent dealer. Ciaooooo

Plus: smoked Puig screen, Yam aluminium sump guard, Yamaha / Acerbis handguards, Givi Trekker aluminium side cases, Leo Vince X3 cans plus Kev front fork mod and Fender Xtender. Just fitted Michelin Road Pilot 3 tyres. SOLD the XTX for a Super Ten 1200. And just bought a Raptor 700 so staying on here for some tips.... |

Is the regulator/rectifier issue something that is a weak point on all 660 Tenere's or just the 08 ones? Are 09's sorted (manufacturing date of course not registration date). Thanks.
