Actually, I think it was only this year they finally completely went to 450.
When JMo did it in 2011, I seem to remember she could technically have entered her Tenere (if she'd taken leave of her senses). I can't remember if that was the year the Pros were still on the big bore bikes with restrictors, or whether it was only the 'amateurs' allowed the big bikes.

There was two transition years I think. Bigger bikes were restricted in one year and the top 50 riders had 450 or HP restricters fitted the next. KTM developed the 690 rallye just for the Dakar and two years later it all changed to bring in other manufactures.
I think this is the first year 450 is the limit that's why Honda have entered a factory team as they have a level playing field to challenge on.

As Uber says, the 2011 edition was the last year larger-engined (450cc+) bikes could be run - amateur riders full power, the pros (top 30 ranking I think) had the restrictors fitted...
2012 onwards everyone had to be on 450s... Jx |
