My first puncture!
OK, So, I passed my test last week and this evening i got my first puncture...a nail in the back wheel of a tubed tyre (I suppose that's what I get for passing first time!)
I picked it up 100 yards from a petrol stn and half an hr from my gf's home. I carry a glue cannister thing you put into the tube to form a seal and hopefully get you home. I fired that into the tube (seemed to work very well for 1 from lidl!) however the petrol stn compressor was out of order so i did not get to test if the glue stuff had worked. I had to call my GF's dad with his van to come and get me so we wheeled the bike into the back and i was home an hr later. I'm kinda glad i picked it up and not some poor foreigner on his GS adventure, also thinking WHY ME?!?! What happened when riding: I was in a 40mph zone following an arctic lorry, going along fine then started feeling wobbly. At first i thought the road surface was throwing my balance off a bit as it was very poor but then when i went to take the corner the bike would not steer (even when it was rear wheel that punctured) so i popped on hazards and pulled off the road. Questions: I am a new rider thoroughly enjoying my XT-R, So what should i do now? Get a new tube and fit it myself? get a tubeless tyre from my dealer down the rd? get a tubed tyre elswhere? I see puncture repair kits for tubeless tyres look decent and seems more of a reliable fix if you get into bother. I fitted a 12v socket to my battery so guess what my next purchase is?! a mini compressor haha! Just thought i would share my tale with any other inexperienced riders. Cheers
