zorst noise

hay

Does any one know in Db's how loud the Ten zorst is?

i ask as i really want a single MTC......but...i CANT STAND loud exhausts on any bikes. i know the MTC is louder and that some people say its only loud sat on the bike, i think the MTC is 90 Db's? or are there other single cans that are quiter?

Guess i should phone MTC and see if theres a different baffle or something, the standard Ten zorst is loud enough for me. i used to love the pops on the over run but now they just piss me off! need to block the AIS, i'll add it to my list of jobs

Cheers

I've measured the MTC @ 3000rpm and it showed as 91db. Now this was on an Android App, so I've no idea how accurate this is, but it does tally fairly well with other known readings. This is with the db killer in too, without the db killer, I can't tell as it destroyed the phone, my hearing and the garage door..... Ok so maybe not quite the door, but it is very loud!

The stock is 90db, or so the EC conformity statement says, so the MTC is slightly louder, about .1 times louder, if my school day physics is right and 100db's is twice the 'loudness' of 90db's. I'm sure someone will come along and correct me if I've cocked it up.

The noise is a different type of noise, stock has much less base, where as the MTC seems to be more of a feel - if you get my meaning.

The best thing to do is find someone with a MTC and listen yourself.

yeah, i know what you mean. Problem is bass travels further than highs.

I cant stand loud exhausts as i like green laning and think its better if my bike isnt loud, my neighbours wont like my early starts and i cant stand the drown on long journeys. how boring am i?!?!

The MTC single IS quite loud. When you rev it has that sharp sound that cuts right through. I lost my db-killer after a week or so after I got mine. I was *ashamed* while driving to work. Luckily MTC sent me a new one free of charge.

I still thought it was loud, though, so I ended up contacting them asking if they had a more quiet baffle I could buy. They did. Cost me 40 and I don't think it's that much quieter actually.

But if, like you say, bass travels further, then maybe it's just me sitting right on top of it that hears it the most. I've more or less gotten used to it by now, but I still drive veeeery carefully when passing police cars just in case

Why not change back to the orginal exhuast?

Either that or get someone to start you bike after its warm and get them to rev it up a bit or hold a steady revs and you walk say a ring around it at 20m distance you will soon see at the front and bits to the side of the bike its not really that loud but its more of at the rear (ie the exit of the exhausts) is where you get the noise

The MTC is definitely louder. I'd say it makes the bike sound more or less like a big trailie from a decade or so ago - as others have said, a really bassy sound, rather than a modern sewing machine bike it is.

Still quieter than any enduro bike though.

I blocked the AIS while fitting mine, so I've traded a bit more noise on an open throttle for not sounding like half a dozen shotguns going off when I close the throttle

i know some people have cut the CAT out of the standard zorst, which makes it a little louder. Has any one got any experience of this AND a MTC can? just wondering how they compare?

im interested in MTC as they seem the popular choice for the Ten, well so do Akro's but i cant afford them.

So are they're other single cans out there....ones quiter than MTC's?

The reason i want a single can is too save weight and give me some room to put a decent sized tool tube which is nicely tucked out the way.....BUt i dont like loud zorst so im a bit ******ed really.

Pretty much. A single silencer is never going to be as quiet as twin silencers, unless it's much bigger - like the original box-type one.

There's not many single-can systems on the market, unless you're able to make your own link pipe, in which case you can use whatever silencer you can find.

Off the top of my head there's MTC, the SR one sold by Off-the-road.de, and the single Akra. The reason so many people go for the MTC (including me) is that they're less than a third the price of the others.

I don't agree about quiet exhausts, although I would advise discretion when opening the throttle.

For me the Ten needs to breath to work properly and with the inlet and zorst sorted and the AIS as Uber says the bike's transformed. Noise is good as it lets people (cars especially) know you're there.

My X racing pipe is quiet enough if I keep the throttle action down, but loud enough too if I give it the berries.

Typically if there is a removeable baffle you'll be fine and even then you can re-pack the can tighter.

Your bike will reward you if you get the gas flow right.
