XTX vs XTR
Dumb Question (first of many) from a Newbie
Is the current XTX and XTR basically the same mechanically and body wise (except for tyres)? More exactly - are the OEM handle bars the same ? Thanks All Marc |

Hello, no question is a dumb question.
There are only a few differences between the X and the R and these are as follows: Front fork, front disc brake rotor, front brake caliper, front mudguard, front light cowling, tank cowlings, rear light cowling, rear swngarm and of course front and rear rims and tyres. I have remembered of another difference between the two, after 2007 and the redesigning of the XTX only the new XTX Radiator is smaller than the one on the XTR.
Handlebars are the same yes. |

They are both great bikes!! When I bought my XT660X I also asked if I could purchase a 21 inch front wheel and then swap the wheel if I wanted to go off road. Unfortunately the answer was no, you would also have to swap the front forks so I forgot about the idea. Would be nice tho.......and ideas????

Plus: smoked Puig screen, Yam aluminium sump guard, Yamaha / Acerbis handguards, Givi Trekker aluminium side cases, Leo Vince X3 cans plus Kev front fork mod and Fender Xtender. Just fitted Michelin Road Pilot 3 tyres. SOLD the XTX for a Super Ten 1200. And just bought a Raptor 700 so staying on here for some tips.... |

The reason I am talking about this bike is because the name Dual Sport meant it came with 2 sets of wheels, one set supermoto and the other enduro. I was meaning to give the enduro wheels a go but I never got around to do it, which was a shame, the Suzuki engine was fantastic, never skipped a beat and had no surging issues. I don't think it was as fast as the XTX on top speed but it was a LOT lighter than the XTX about 137Kg (the XTX weighs 181 Kgs, that's 44 Kilos more!!) and it would go up on one wheel in 3rd and 4th gear at a blip of the throttle. Lots of fun it was. Put it this way it was a 644cc engine with 53HP at 7000 rpm. the XTX are standard 649cc and 48HP at 6000 RPM! There was nothing to the frame, and had a very nice and shiny alley rear swingwarm, they were sold already with a straight through can without cat converters and restrictions just a removable baffle that made it barely legal, and boy it was loud even with the baffle on, never got around to have it MOT'd of course. To me it was a serious competitor to the KTM brigade, and it was a British company, such a shame that they went under. That's a nice looking bike Captain. Ive not heard of CCM before but a lot of people on a Suzuki forum I am on tried to convince me to buy a DR650 which is probably very similar. It just so happens I saw the XT which is a 2009 with 1800ks and used to have an XT250 so I couldn't resist.

Not sure about the bars but why not get a set of for eg renthals that probably cost the same as the rip off yamaha cheese ones, so at least they are starting and will deal with a bit of abuse
As for the CCM, they still do a ccm 404 i think, basically has the drz 400 engine in ti but again completely different everything else, weights the same as a jar of jam, and is suppose to be a direct swap with wheels but you have to one the other set yourself.

Wow that CCM looks wonderful and had 2 sets of wheels, exactly my idea!!!!!
They were a great company years ago and I remember watching scrambling when Dave Vickers used to win on his CCM!!! Oh dear I am getting old hehe....
