Curse of the Rectumfier

Well my first Rectifier died after 17,000 miles in Alaska, now I'm stuck in Wisconsin USA after my 2nd Rec died after 23,000 miles. I'm definitely carrying a spare from now on. I wasn't far off clocking 40,000 too. Hopefully pick one up tomorrow as it fits about a million different Yamaha models in the States inc Boats and Grizzly quads, then with a bit of luck continue my trip to Niagra Falls.

Bad news two units failing in such a short time, are you sure the connector is OK???
I just replaced my standard rectifier on my Z with the latest Mosfet FH012AA unit [yami R1] and new water proof conectors from Eastern Beaver in Japan, will post some pictures of the install, didnt want mine failing in the Stanz or China.

Good idea Eric; no such thing as too much reliability. I look forward to your install, mate.

Would you call 40,000 miles (9 months of riding) on a 2009 a 'short time' ? Most people don't do that in a lifetime. The connectors are all good, just think it's had a hard life, although there is no real reason something as basic as a Rectifier would just die anyway. It really is the Achilles heel of the Tenere.

In this modern day there should be no need for items like these to fail at all!! if you look at the rectifier position on the Z its crazy and to me the wires should enter from the bottom with a simple rubber boot covering the conector, then if you remove the plug and see the size of the rectifier conectors dont think they could get them any smaller!!
I agree rectifiers and the cush rubbers are the Achilles heel of the 660z with many topics about these problems, so this is why i have gone to the modern cool running Mosfet type rectifier with 100% water proof connection, even though mine has not yet failed !! but to be stuck in China or anywhere with a problem i already know about to me is stupid, simple preventative maintenance and not so expensive to do.

Hi Spen
Ok carrying the replacement rectifier, but the usual problems it melts the plastic plug as well, hence new loom.

That 's really bad (luck?). Mine just passed 43000 miles including deserts (Marocco), dust, mud and water (Holland, Poland, Slowakia, Hungary, Romania)... and still didn't gave me any trouble at all... You make me feel like I just won the lottery
