Something to ponder.....

Just read this ->

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16844525

I can't help but think it's good for motorcycling in general. If it does nothing more than make scooter riders appreciate how vulnerable bikers are, then it has to be a step in the right direction .... doesn't it?

Scooters

I think its great, get as many of them as you can on the road, it solves a number of issues like;

1) Lower general road congestion levels
2) As GULG says, better biker awareness
3) Some of the new riders will graduate to bigger machines
4) Lower volume production costs (the more bikes manufacturers can sell, the lower the unit costs will be, cheaper bikes for you and me)
5) It'll force manufacturers to concentrate on fuel efficiency in the same way they did cars. (on a general note, how is it possible my Golf consistently gives better fuel economy than my Versys 650?)
6) Lots of these new users will be ladies, I like to see ladies riding big bikes, but even ladies riding scooters make me smile!

You could be right? However, the pessimistic side of me is worried by the large numbers of inexperienced people jumping straight on scooters with minimal training, riding in big cities like London and becoming accident statistics. As we all know the government, and more so the EU, use/twist these statistics to their advantage and use them as their first line of attack when out to clobber motorcycling with new laws and directives.

I cant help wondering how long it,ll be before the goverment starts meddling with the motorcycle test side of things even more when people who are jumping on scooters especially in cities like london end up causing or being in serious accidents, rode inner london for 5 years as a way of getting from job to job as a gas engineer and was amazed at what i have seen scooters with L plates on mainly doing with their death defying riding, its great seeing more two wheels being registered for the industry but not for future accident statistics, time will tell.

the only thing, i wonder will the gov decide to milk the rise in popularity of the bike? conjestion charges, parking, etc
