International Driving Permits

One for the Moroccan veterans. According to the Post Office website an International Driving Permit is "recommended" for Morocco. Anyone who's been care to comment?

I believe it is recommended, but not required.

I have been twice without one.

I know it's only 5 but what's its purpose? Is it just another way of getting cash out of you? What might happen if the police decided to stop you and you didn't have one?

I think the Moroccan police and customs have seen enough EU/UK licences now to know what they are... x

As Nick says, you can go to Morocco without an International Driving Permit with no problems... all they really care about is your vehicle registration document (at customs) and to a lesser extent, some sort of insurance policy...

Have fun, Morocco rocks!

As above but I got one as I have the old style green paper licence, so it was handy as it had a photo on it. I am going again in October & will do the same as my old one looks like some old Egyptian paper! Have a great time.

Definitely get a new licence with a photo.

Many countries don't like the old paper ones.
