Sorry, another newbie question, please be patient and I will in turn have a lot of useful input myself.

I have had a brand new big bore single before back in 2001 twas a KLR650. I dont recall it popping and banging the way this new tenere does. is this normal, we are talking big pops everytime the throttle is closed

I took it for a 2.4 mile ride tonight, its now got 4 miles on the clock and the exhaust was smoking like a couple O smith and wessens down at a rootin tootin shootin gun-slinging competition. That will just be residue from the manufacturing process.

Probably normal to bang and pop but there must be unburned fuel in the system for it to do this. Early days yet I suppose. Was inpressed with the gearchange after my BMW and the ride was very smooth. Keeping to 4.5K revs for the first 600 Miles of course
