Pop and bang on the overun

Sorry, another newbie question, please be patient and I will in turn have a lot of useful input myself.

I have had a brand new big bore single before back in 2001 twas a KLR650. I dont recall it popping and banging the way this new tenere does. is this normal, we are talking big pops everytime the throttle is closed

I took it for a 2.4 mile ride tonight, its now got 4 miles on the clock:eusa_dance: and the exhaust was smoking like a couple O smith and wessens down at a rootin tootin shootin gun-slinging competition. That will just be residue from the manufacturing process.

Probably normal to bang and pop but there must be unburned fuel in the system for it to do this. Early days yet I suppose. Was inpressed with the gearchange after my BMW and the ride was very smooth. Keeping to 4.5K revs for the first 600 Miles of course

Pops and bangs are normal. Some block off the ais to reduce this. Myself I love the pops and farts. It's character.

Yeah, they're very normal.

There is a system on the bike called Air Induction System (I think) or AIS.

Basically, when the engine is on overrun, it opens a small valve letting COLD air directly into the HOT exhaust. Any unburnt fuel in the exhaust will get burnt up pretty much unstantly causing the back firing through the exhaust.

What a lot of people do to prevent this, like Tony says, is to block the AIS pipe from the airbox prevent the air getting into the exhaust.

Hi, Im new too, but the pops and bangs sound great and personally I cant wait to get the loud pipes on just to amplify the pops and bangs :071: and that gearbox is really smooth.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I love the sound of it backfiring!

But, because of the current setup of my bike with having an autotune, any extra air in the exhaust throw the readings out so I had to block the AIS off.

I'm not sure I understand your calculation. 600 miles divided by 2.4 miles per day = 250 days = about 8 months
