OIL an Filter change
, Well I must say thanks to the guy,, a cant remember where I read it...who said when doin the oil an filter change.. mind put a towel over the front wheel, as the oil spews out......well it did fur me, an am glad a had that towel there let me tell you...
so thats me got a new filter an new oil in there at 46.000 miles...so i take it it`l run sweet fur another 3k miles, then al change it again...whit a bummer it was taking that large Tourtech bash plate off then refitting it.. the hard bit was putting it back on......BUT... a couple o hours an it was all done...oiled the chain... also tightened it a wee bit.. so am al ready fur whitever....... I felt a little play in the rear bearings... would i need to change both sides... I take it there is a bearing on both sides o the rear wheel. ??? also whats the standard Front Sprocket size... i have a 15 fitted.. I have a new 14.. but a think al leave it off , as the front wheel can pick itself up if it wants....another thing guys.. i took ma oil out the bike,, an a measured it, it was 3.1 ltrs maybe 3.1.5 but i only put 2.9 in is that or will that be ok,,, as i thought the engine only took 2.9 inc the filter... ??? can anyone add to this please...... john Last edited by afk40; 23-09-10 at 14:04. |

Hello John,
Did the first service at 600 miles - aye got a lot more out than I expected too. But followed the hand book - put 2 litres in and turned the engine over a few times and then topped up to the dip stick . Checked level again after a quick ride and it was fine. PS - When draining the tank I put some garden hose onto the bottom of a funnel - the hose running into the tray I had used to catch the oil from the sump drain - worked fine and caught all the oil without anything hitting the front tyre. |

1 in the rear sprocket 2 in the rear wheel ie one either side as for changing them, there is nothing to say you have to change both in one is gone but it is advicable to make sure the other doesnt go. They are not too expensive from my knowledge (wheel off and in to mechanic think cost me around 15 for one so around 25 say for two) Yes the standard front sprocket is a 15, so adding a 14 tooth will make it pick up the front wheel more more wheelie points. As for the oil ive never really measured the amount i put in or take out but did read in the manual about 2.9l. Saying that when i first got the bike got a mechanic to change the oil and he put in 2.9l as told and then had ot add around 2-300 mills more to bring up the dip stick. Do around 1 litres in, start engine, 1 litre, start engine, 0.8 litres, start engine, then just top it up a bit at a time. Normally take it for a wee run around, let it settle while level then check it again. Cant understand though where does the extra oil added go that the manual doesnt say is needed??
