Continental Conti trail attack
Just fitted a set of these road treaded tyres to my R as i mainly use the XT for my 50 mile a day commute and the half worn Michelin Seracs were quite frankly getting scarry on wet roundabouts
only so far done the trip to work which is all A roads but the XT now feels totally different, the steering is so much quicker, due to the tyres more rounded profile. Just lacking the confidence as yet to really test the limits, but i'm geussing the side stand will hit before the tyres let go. They dont seem at all bothered with overbanding, white lines or any road imperfections & I have been playing with drifting purposely across overbanding just to confirm these tyres don't react at all where the Seracs would twitch. obviously they would be no use off road, but I didn't get them for that (I even sold a part used pair of TCK's to get them!) Cost wise they aren't the cheapest at 147 for the pair from Roundandblack off ebay probably 30-35% more than the prefered (by most) distanzia's but having used Contis in the past I like them, the tread pattern alone is worth some extra pose points I will update when i have had time for a fun ride rather than just a commute in the dark |

I ran these on my GS and really liked them. They take a bit of running in to get all the mould release agent out of them but after that fine. As you found the bike dropped alot faster which came as a shock when I first tested them.

they were developed specifically for the GS, yes its quite a shock to find as you think your positioning for entry to a roundabout you nearly swap lanes, but thats will be taken into account as i become used to them

They do seem very pricey though, but i suppose if they last longer they it all weighs up. Cant wait for your review as my tyres are getting on a bit and im really looking at putting road tyres on and was looking at the Bridgestone BT45's and dont worry about your sidestand touching down the pegs get down first

perhaps I should point out that I'm not exactly a novice, having a full bike license since 1980. I was grounding foot pegs on my DT 175 MX nearly 30 years ago. ridden bikes almost constantly since then price for me wasn't my main concern, but yes coni's are always a bit more expensive than other makes I will post up my thoughts on the contis when i get a good chance to work them hard, at the moment just commuting on A roads I'm not getting any heat into the front tyre but the rear is fine, front needs to be worked harder I recon then it will be fine Last edited by kevin..in; 24-01-10 at 15:51. |

...and your thoughts were??
I've been using Anakee2s and whilst they seem to grip very well, the profile is so flat I'm on the edge of them even on these cold days. They're lasting OK. 5,000 miles and there's another 1000 in them. Just considering options for summer. Rob |

as a slight alternative, I used Metzeler MEZ2s on my tenere and they were very good and far superior to BT45s. I can't rate them against the conti trails though.
