Thumbs up XTR Modified to take XTX Wheels.

After ALOT of forum trawling and hard searching i found i was getting a bit confused with how i could fit the 2 XT660X wheels to an XT660R bike. I made a few phone calls and got a few different answers to which i found pretty strange but thought "sod it" im going to buy these XTX wheels and give it a go.
During the fitting i took some pictures to try and help out others that want to do the same modification.
Here is how i did it ( Photos are in no particular order ) - - - -

My Bike - 54 plate XT660R.
Wheels purchased - 2008 XT660X.

Photos are a bit rough so if you have any questions about this modification feel free to contact me.

UPDATE

After the modification you will have to take it easy when riding.I noticed the discs and caliper were getting a bit hot. Im pretty sure this is down to the pads bedding in. Ive done about 20 carefull miles and they seem to have stopped getting hot but please be very very carefull on your first ride....As someone stated on here before "You dont want to do a stoppie at 70mph as you wont survive it"

Hi Chris ,
Got them from ebay mate. They were on there for a couple of months being sold by "Hills". I paid 500 for both wheels, tyres (new) and discs which i thought expensive at the time. If i think about it now and break it all down in price i suppose it isnt that bad. I did miss out on a set of wheels with no tyres that went for 57 each wheel but they were very shabby so im glad i got beat on the bidding.
If you want to buy them brand new your looking at alot of money Chris, I think they are around 1100 - 1200. Heres a link to them - http://www.off-the-road.de/xt660_fah...eder.html?&L=1 I find this website/dealer very expensive though but they have pretty much everything for the XT660 models.
If you want some advise Chris if you see any wheels on ebay id grab them quick with both hands, you dont see second hand ones for sale that often.Saying that tho there is a guy called Adam that uses this forum (not to often) that has a set for sale for 250 with tyres.Might be worth giving him a PM to see if he still has them.Let me know if you want to contact him and ill fish out his user name for you as i cant remember it off hand.
Give me a shout if you need any help when you decide to do the modification and ill help out as best i can via this forum or phone.
All the best.
Gav

Hi,

I was just reading the thread about having to buy a speedo healer if you change sprocket size due to speedo reading coming from gear box. I just wanted to clarify that if I put xtx wheels on my xtr then the speedo will still read true?

Thanks

Skt

If you put Xtx tyres than speedometer error will increase about 2,5%. (130/80 => 160/60)
If original error is 7% than error with Xtx wheels is almost 10%. It is up to you if you can live with that.

I have bought speedohealer because I usually use 14/48 sprocket with XTR wheels (better for offroad) and 15/45 with XTx wheels.

Here you are one calculator about tyre size change effect:

Thanks ejj.

I can certainly live with the speedo being out but what about the odometer? If I want to sell the bike later then will The odo read higher mileage than what the bike has travelled? Or less than it has travelled?

Original odometer error is not so big than speedometer error.
Odometer will show little higher read what bike has travelled if you put XTx wheels to XTr (in theory +2.5%)
