UK Tenere owners let's help SteveD
As some of you might know SteveD has had a problem with his rectifier / regulator, for some reason his one was frail and weak, it over heated and eventually the connection burned or deteriorated.
When he took his bike to the dealer, he has had not a lot of joy from them. As you know some dealer are all towards the client when it comes to a warranty claims other are not and tend to fleece you. I have suggested to Steve that he is entitled to have his bike collected and taken f.o.c. using the Yamaha RAC cover to another more reputable dealer. He also understands that this issue has affected a few other Tenere owners here and while most of these have had their entire loom changed, his dealer, despite having received a new loom from Yamaha, are reluctant to fit it on his bike, and they just want to change the original connector with a smaller and cheaper looking one. Why I wonder? Well, either because they are plain lazy or because they are thinking that if they just bodge his bike they can keep the loom and flog it to the next customer, a new entire new loom is in the 250 mark range so you know its easy money for the store manager, effing creep!. Now, how can you help? If you have had the same issue please write down the following:

Many thanks for that but can I just add that I haven't got the bike back yet and the dealer intends to only use the connector off the new loom. What a waste as then the loom will be of no use to anyone else.
As for the new loom who knows where it is. I hope we get some replies and I can put another letter together but more strongly worded this time. Cheers steveD

For one they do not admit that there is a problem and secondly they do not have the spares to repair. C'mon you guys give me some ammo, it could be one of you with this problem next time.

I had the same issues with mine and i went to the dealer and told them there was a problem with the loom and regulator and rectifier, they said they had never heard of it, i went armed with a few pages from this forum, the next day the dealer rang me and said yamaha have agreed to change the loom and regulator rectifier, i asked is there any chance they could cut the loom under the tank solder the wires and shrink wrap the cable as i didnt want a new loom as it was a pain in the arse, the dealer refused and said they loom needed changing, after two weeks i had a new loom reg/rec changed and the bike is now running great, if you want any help from me, you can give yamaha uk my number and i will explain that there is a issue.

My bike broke down on three times, big yellow light on the dash , i unplugged the off the reg/rec and two cable were burned, i tried to clean them up but the engine light still come on.
I rang my local dealer JTS in Bridgend 01656 645552 The yamaha fitter there who changed the loom name was roy who aranged RAC Yamaha assist to collect the bike Later on i visited the dealer and explained the problem, while i was there the fitter took the reg/rec plug off and could see the problem, i then explained that there was a known problem with the bike's loom and reg/rec. i left the bike there and the next day i had a phonecall from JTS who said yamaha had agreed to change the loom and reg/rec free of charge. After two weeks the bike was ready for collection. Im not sure if the dealer doesn't want to change the loom and is trying to pull a fast one, i for one have yamaha to be superb for warrenty work. i had a spring snap on my sidestand on the tenere, i dropped the bike as it stalled at low speed, it damaged the pump, grey plastic side panel and mirror, i rang my local dealer and yamaha changed the lot, they even put new handgaurds on because they had a small scratch. and as above no bother them changing the loom/reg/rec either, i think alot of it is your dealer not telling yamaha uk that this needs to be done under warrenty. |

Hi
My tenere broke down about 3 weeks ago with just over 350 miles on her usual problem yellow light and bike not charging I charged her over night rode to my dealers and they checked the bike and said the voltage regulator was not working. They ordered the parts and replaced no problem and as the main salesman also owns a tenere and lurks on this site he got them to check the connector on the loom which seemed ok Got the bike back after about 5 days and had an MT03 as a demo for that time which included the weekend waiting for parts It has since had the 600 mile service done friday gone and then i thrashed it down to my uncle's yesterday a 400 mile round trip and the engine has become sweet as a nut very little vibes and never missed a beat The dealer is powerbiking in High Wycombe they have been really good as my original petrol tank had paint imperfections and the replacement they fitted during the 1st service has over spray and they just ordered another one under warranty no problems what so ever Regards Gary |
