Oil cooler (designed for XT660X) fitted to Tenere

Apologies for the quality of the photos and lack of detail.
Basically the cooler is fitted to same mounting points on engine as XT660X, but they have to be Bent slightly and mocol oil thermostat was a squeeze to get in.

Use a mocol thermostat as far cheaper than the JAG unit; but it does take up more room!

Sine changing the crankshaft oil seal the “right way round” (shown wrong in manual and Yamaha cannot agree in writing, as it affects so many of their single cylinder bikes), the oil temp is around 10 deg C less; so I may actually remove it and only refit it if going on a desert trail in the tropics.

That's a really interesting project. Excuse my ignorance (still learning after 40 years) but what was your reason for putting a cooler on the Tenere and has putting it on top of the hottest part of the Tenere effected the cooler's performance?

For me,.....and here's my ignorance again....my concern in reducing the oil temp too much is that there may be a condensation issue in the frame's oil tank which can cause corrosion at, or around, the dip stick area within the inside of the tank.

chalk2,
Not ignorant at all, I found the time the engine gets the hottest is when motorway riding (high revs), and found the temp was over 100 degC.
Hence the reason for fitting it.
As to fitting it above the exhaust, that was the only place I found room that was protected when off road.
Think I cracked a rib off-roading in Kent today after spilling, loosing two indicators and breaking a clutch lever (still just about usable, but will buy the cheap fold up ones, off eBay which others have used).

Also seem to have twisted the front forks as well (anyone else had this issue?).
So no one send me any jokes! LoL

But yea, I might make some more brackets to position it further up from the exhaust, but then checking the cam chain is more difficult, as it will block the cover.

Or divert the exhaust, which is why I think Kev has done, which gives more room as well.
