I'm prepping my Tenere for a 3000+ mile jaunt from Europe back to Blighty and I've just fitted my 2nd set of TKC 80s, by hand.

I've hand-balled Siracs, Karoo 3's, and 4 other brands on and off that rear "safety rim" with lots of swearing.

My TKCs lasted 6000 miles... (yep, tiz true...with 2mm on the rear left)

I have to report that the TKCs lasted as long as anything else I've had and by far were the easiest to rip off the rear rim, especially with the Motion Pro bead breaker / tyre lever tool. I carry Vaseline in my tool set-up to make tube changes on the trail easier and the TKCs nearly went back on by hand like a bicycle tyre.

So my point (finally! ) is, if any of you fancy a big trip and worry about that, well known, rear rim being awkward for puncture repairs, get some TKC 80's. They're fab on and off road and work well in the wet too.

Please, Continental let's not drop these tyres from your range.

I will get the MP bead breakers and the TKC 80s next time.

Managed to to put on a new rear Sirac today. It was also a Sirac that came off. I broke the bead with the bike's side stand (like I used to do on my old GS), but it wasn't that easy. And I am always a bit anxious to destroy the rim - or to drop the bike. It all went well (with three long levers, lots of dish soap, and doing really small bites when putting on the new tyre). But warm weather today, so both tyres could soften in the sunshine. Would have been much, much more difficult if being on the road in rainy and cold weather!

So thanks! next time I'll follow your advice.
