New Exhausts, what next?

I have just fitted a Black Widow system to my bike,( 55 reg XTX ) everything else is standard, the bike now feels less restricted and revs more freely but still has the surging issue at fixed throttle position i.e. 30mph in 3rd etc. I intend to check the twist grip and if needed do the mod to smooth out the action, chain is new and adjusted correctly and Cush drive has had rubber inserts fitted to tighten it up.
I have read up on changing the settings on the dash. What I would like to know is if there is a default setting or do I just adjust up or down and see what makes a difference and how much can I change setting without any damage being done.
Bike is a short trip toy only so don't want to do loads of mods etc and I want to keep the bike as standard as possible, air filter etc.

Regards, Al.

Kev mod could be the answer to your problem.
Plenty on here about it.

All you need to know... https://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=630...

I think we have had this conversation before BUT...as you have put freer flowing exhaust pipes on then I would seriously consider putting A DNA air filter in ..at least stage 1,ie replace original.

Thanks for the info, I am not looking to get every ounce of BHP, just to get the bike running as smoothly as possible for minimum effort and cost. I will have a read through and see what I need.

Thanks, Al.

Theres no such thing as a free lunch all XTs are as yours is blame the TUV you will need pipes filters, better still pull the snorkel out and drill the air box feeling a little faint are we

Then all you need is a fuelling solution cheapest is Kevs mod want to do a proper job then thatll be a Power Commander the choice as they say is yours.

But it can be sorted and will take your XT to a level that you expected in the first place!!!

Your term Loads of mods is all relative as they say,DNA filters from the UK importer and a secondhand PC youll be amazed.

I have 2 xt660 one is 100% standard and has NO running problems at all, not a mod on it. Rides smooth no surging at all. And I have one with all the mods. If you don’t want to add all the mods just make sure the tick over is set to 1.5 and just set your 02 between 10 to 15. Make sure you have no free play at the throttle grip And maybe add a k&n or dna air filter. That would be my advice if you do not want to add the kev fuel mod or go down the pc route .One thing I will say the one I have with all the mods dose pick its feet up when asked and it’s a lot more responsive. But there is nothing wrong with the ride of my standard one at all. And is still a joy to ride. All though I let the wife ride that one lol.

Talking

Since fitting the exhaust the bike definitely runs better, feels less restricted, just a bit of surging at low speed constant throttle. If a free flow air filter and a specific o2 setting will smooth this out this will be fine for what I want, I have fitted new chain/sprockets and the inner tube cush drive mod so that should help as well, I just want the bike to run as smooth as possible without being obsessive about max bhp, 60 for an air filter is 'kin stupid!! if I want more power I will take the GS.
Thanks for the information.

When I fitted DNA filters I felt it helped smooth things out and in combination with changing a few settings made the bike that much more enjoyable.

I was able to compare the bike and how it felt with my mates standard R. Big difference.

After he rode mine he did the same mods pdq.

Smile

Without Kevs mod or a PC youll never cure the hunting at a constant throttle setting.

All the other mods are just to help the motor breath better,no good talking about HP these bikes dont have any
