Heated grips
Hi Guys, want to fit heated grips to my 2009 660 Tenere but would like to wire them through a switched power supply i.e. live with turning on the ignition.
Not sure of the power rating of the grips but supplied fuse rating is 5amps. The spare 12volt supply behind the speedo is used for a sat nav. Any suggestions Cheers Ian |

You could theoretically power the grips as well as the satnav off the spare connector behind the dash, but you'll be getting very close to the limits of the 10A supply available at that connector because it on a circuit which also supplies the sidelights, tail light, number plate lamp and indicators (as well as your satnav).
The failsafe option would be to use the spare connector's supply to trigger a relay and run the load for the grips direct from the battery via the relay. Trouble is there isn't much space up front to hide a relay other than behind the grey panels. The alternative is to do the same thing but trigger a relay off the tail light supply and stash it under the seat where there is more space. |

Ian,
I fitted some of those wrap around "element" heated grip things on mine and just wired them up to the two spare wires behind the dash with a block connector. Works fine although don't get much heat through foam grips. It's just good enough to take the edge off the cold. Pretty basic electrikery on my part but they're still working 2 years on. Cheers, Had |
