adventure helmet recommendation

I have always worn full face helmet. To reduce the low sun glare, I have a dark trip at the top of the visor.

Because the sitting position is so upright, low sun, wet shiny tarmac can be problem for me riding along shaded country roads.

I have been seriously thinking abt an adventure style helmet with sun visor and shield (with the possible option of removing it to wear goggles).

has anyone got any recommendation?

I also need to avoid oisy helmets

thx

I fully agree with your needs. If you want to spend the money the Arai Tour-X4 is very popular and excellent quality.
Personally I use the Airoh S5 which is very good value for money. I like the flip down internal dark visor. The peak also folds down for fitting into small topbox. Fairly quiet compared to previous helmets I've had.
But the ultimate decision should lie with how comfortable it fits you.

+1

Youll get a thousand and one different personal opinions (all valid and useful) on helmet choices in a thread like this and, TBH, itll probably making arriving at a decision even more difficult!

Your best bet is to get to either a bike shop that has a wide range of makes/models and different sizes in stock, or get to one of the larger bike shows and try some on first. Speaking from bitter experience, choosing a helmet based on its looks, style and recommendations can lead to disappointment as certain brands tend to fit different shape heads. A good while back I set my heart on an Arai Tour (Mk 1) and bought one, lovely helmet but didnt work for me as it was uncomfortable and didnt fit my head shape. Tried other Arais and they were/are all the same. Turns out I have a Shoei shaped head - been a Shoei man ever since! I currently use a Hornet DS as my regular lid.

Work out what fits and what doesnt first, then draw up a shortlist after that. Then take into account reviews, recommendations and what floats your boat in order to arrive at a final decision. Itll save you time, money and avoid the distress of getting your heart set on a particular helmet and then finding it doesnt fit!

Also bear in mind one mans quiet helmet can be another mans noisy nightmare! Much is dependent on height, body shape, riding position, screen size etc. People said Arai Tours were noisy at the time I had one, but personally I never had a problem, which just goes to show widely we all differ.

Beware of the Arai tour x. I have one, love it and have used it for nearly 5 years, but a lot of people (including me) suffer from the peak vibrating at certain speeds on the Tenere. Gives you a massive headache. Only seems to happen with people around a certain height (6ft ish). I cut my screen down in the end. Tried all sorts to sort it out but nothing worked exept removing or cutting the screen. So in conclusion, see if you can do a test ride with the new lid.

I had the same issue with my tour x. But it was gone with my Tour X 3 and Tour X 4.
@Pepsi: As others said: Make testrides. And if you like to use goggles test it as well. Personally I can recommend the KTM/Progrip goggles for the tour X 4. The fit perfectly.

Another remark: Personally the price of a helmet is secondary. It's the only head I've got.

I use a Caberg Tourmax with built in sun visor. Perfect helm for the money. But some peak vibration at higher speeds. But i think every helmet with a peak will suffer from this. But a built in sun visor is a real pro. I never again want a helmet without one.

I bought a shoei hornet DS earlier this year and think it's great...light, comfortable and real quality. They've just bought out. New model so if you're quick you can pick up a bargain in the older version, which is what I Have.

Also called an Oneal Sierra...love mine, cheap as chips and full of features like drop down tint visor.
Can be noisy but I wear a head sock and can clearly hear my Sena at highway speeds without any ringing ears after the ride. Peak is also what makes it awesome, can tilt head to block out most sun and doesn't catch the wind like a MX helmet peak does.
No vibrating or drumming on my Ten, I'm 6' but always run a tank bag.
