from blackbird to xt600x advise?
guys i own a cbr1100xx blackbird at present to which i would just like a change to something smaller cc wise. i was offered a swap for my bike to a xt660x 2007 with 11300miles the xt has engine bars also giva rack scottoiler fitted. just would like some advice on the xt660x pros and conns as i have never owned one .i read about fuel issues on the xt so i asked the guy about it and he told me bike is fine if kept in the correct gear in town below 30mph as he has no issues with it this way. also what sort of mpg would i expect to get from the xt660x. my blackbird does about 70miles for a 10 petrol. any common problems to look out for with the xt660x . thanks guys any advice would be very much appreciated

Your guy is pretty much right about the fuelling - keep it the right gear with the revs up and the surging is not an issue. However, there are a lot of cheap and free fixes, all listed in the mods section
here, that can address the problem and make the bike ride much more smoothly at lower throttle openings.
You should expect to get anywhere between 100 and 120 miles on a tenners worth of fuel on an XT. They return between 50 and 60 mpg generally, depending on how they are ridden. These bikes are pretty reliable as long as maintain properly - regular oil changes, greasing of swingarm, linkage and head races etc. Other than the fuelling issue there aren't really any major issues with the XTX. |

I part ex'd a SV650 for a brand new XTX 6/7 years ago, haven't looked back once.
Completely different animal, it might not be able to keep up with them on long motorway stretches but for fun theres nothing like. Handles through corners lovely, and you can use all the power without losing your licence :P I rode mine for a few years before I saw the forum so hadn't read about fuelling and surging problem, and I hadn't noticed anything odd. The only issue I'd found was 30mph is between 2nd and 3rd gear, but thats sorted by sitting at just over 30 in 3rd
