Sidestrand cut out switch
Hi, is it possible to get rid of the Side stand cut out switch. .? I had tore route the wiring in order to fit a stainless chain guard and it looks vulnerable to me. The bike starts wether the stand is up or down anyway! Is it something I can do myself.? Thanks Steve

The bike will start whether the stand is up or down if it is in neutral. With it in gear and the clutch disengaged it will not start with the stand down. It will also cut the engine if the side stand is put down if the bike is in gear - this is the one that causes problems if the switch gets damaged.
You can remove/disconnect the switch. Just bear in mind that if you happen to have left the bike in gear and forget, when you try and start it on the sidestand it will end in tears! |

Yep. Just two small bolts and nuts hold it on to the side stand mounting.
Then you have a choice... (1) Trace the cable back to its connector (blue 2 pin) under the tank and unplug it. You will then need to bridge the two terminals in the loom side of the connector. The circuit MUST have continuity for the bike to run. Problems with this option are: You have to take the tank off and to bridge the terminal properly, you'll need a spare male connector which aren't easy to source. (2) The easier option. Cut the cable at least 4cm from the switch. Again, you MUST have continuity, so solder the green/blue and black wires on the bike side of the cable together and insulate/protect with heat shrink. Tuck the remaining cable attached to the bike out the way and cable tie in place. Leaving at least 4cm of cable on the switch will allow relatively easy reconnection should you change your mind. |
