Painting Exhausts
Hi,
I am new here and recently bought a Yamaha XT 660 X 2008 model. I want to paint the bike matte black. I asked a few paint shops if they can paint the exhausts. They all said it would be too hot. I have titanium Akrapovic slip on as well, i want to paint those too. Is that even possible? Can somebody help me with this and what i need to use etc.? (pardon my English) Gr, At0v2 |

I'd say a car accessory shop would be your best bet.
I used some Exhaust Header paint (spray) on a previous bike that was good for 800 degrees. Worked really well and lasted. As with most painting it's all in the preparation. |

The only thing I've ever found that works long term on exhausts (headers and silencers) is a decent ceramic coating such as Camcoat. You can DIY it with reasonably good results, but a professional paint shop or powder coaters should offer a cermaic coating service.

I would recomend ceramic coating. Google if there are any nearby your location. Ceramic coating can be done on the outside as well as on the inside of the exhaust. There are also some DIY kits but they are not as good, the ceramic coating needs to be cured in a oven.

Not sure whether is will work on riveted silencers like the Akras? Because they are not made entirely of one metal, the different metals will expand at different rates and there will be small amounts of movement at the rivet joints. Cast, formed and welded parts expand and contract more uniformly. |
