It's yellow, that's for sure
To wheelie; first gear, pull away and then with your foot covering the back brake and your left foot under the gear lever simply crack the throttle and when the front has come up a chunk, clutchless shift to second. Sometimes it stays up to third but often begins to come back down by then. I can't balance point wheelie. When the fuel tank is full, it really doesn't want to wheelie. |

This bike isn't really one you would choose to buy if all you wanted to do was wheelie. It's heavy, particularly over the front and the power to weight ratio is not in its favour. Saying that, it's still quite achievable especially if you gear it down a bit. By gearing it down, you get more low down snappy power making second gear wheelies easier.
Now go practice. |

It's not hard to wheelie at all. I find it's a rear weight biased bike - just sit back a bit and up it comes easily enough without much effort, empty or full. In fact for quick getaways I have to really pull myself forward over the front to avoid it.
Not being contrary, just my experience of the thing. |

I agree we both of the above. It's an easy bike to pull the wheel up but not the right bike. Nice video though and impressed with his control of this heavy bike.

Yep I had to keep an eye on my 916 when doing long extended second third gear wheelies. Too high and the oil light would flicker on so it was time to drop it back down. Lose practice now through.
Not sure the chap above mean by wheelies - yes it will lift the front when pulling away from the light if you open it up a bit with a little too much clutch slip but I think we are talking about proper balance point wheelies - which is the only kind that is actually a "wheelie" not just a power wheelie. Proper wheelies on the z aren't easy for reasons given above. I took my smashed gsxr and bent frame straight so build a so called streetfighter to learn.

I haven't done decent balance-point wheelie for AGES. Sigh. In any case, I was far too gutless to attempt that stuff on any roadbike I've owned. Strictly trailbikes only, with memories of some pain. Both bodily and walletly. With that in mind, my Tenere will not be used for wheelie practice.
Nothing like a good wheelie for grin value, though! |
