XT660Z Fuel Tank capacity
Yam spec sheet says 23 ltrs. No matter how high I pour from I can only get 13 in?
I've tried rocking it, bouncing it, kicking it and shouting at it but I can't find the missing 10ltr space anywhere. So far other threads on this topic seem confusing. Anybody out there clarify this? |

Indeed, the capacity is 23L. You can squeeze nearly 24L in if you're extremely patient and/or drilled an air vent hole in the filler neck.
Trouble is, the fuel gauge lies! It does not fall linearly due to the weird shape of the tank. Theoretically the F-Trip should start flashing with ~6.5L still to go, but it doesn't and isn't consistent either. It's accuracy also seems to vary hugely from bike to bike too - luck of the draw how each fuel gauge behaves. You've obviously got a pessimistic one! |

So when I fill up, with the nozzle all the way in... in the UK anyway... the nozzle 'clicks' at around 13 litres.
You have to take the nozzle slightly out to fill the remaining. Stand the bike upright and you'll see how full your tank is. When the fuel reaches the bottom of the plastic inside the filler cap... it's full. 23 litres. What's most annoying is the fact that the feeder pipe is located in the centre of the tank. When the bike is low on fuel and idling on the sidestand, I've had it die on me, so to continue warming up, I have to sit on the bike and keep it upright. Mine is fairly consistent... I don't ride it too hard (prefer consumption over speed in this ****ty weather!) My F-Trip comes on at around 200 miles. I do about another 50 miles on F-Trip and fill up roughly 19-21 litres every time. Average consumption is below in my signature, which seems to be consistent and average for a Ten with DNA stage 1+2, both Kev Mods and a De-cat exhaust.

I had just the same question when i first got my Tenere.
I like many others thought that when F-trip started flashing that i was almost out of fuel so off i went and filled up straight away...and in went 14 ltrs..i could not get any more in. Then after asking on here i found out that almost 1/3 of the tenere tank is used for reserve...meaning F-trip. I get 250 miles until f-trip and then another 50 easily. I then get about 20ltrs in. Try doing about 50 miles on F-trip..then 60..then 70 and see how much you get in each time. But trust us..your tank is 23 ltrs. Mike |
