Airbox over flow
Just got back from a 1700km bimmble round SW France , before i left i emptied the oil pipe from the airbox and did the same when i got back , not much in there ,maybe 2cms.
Has anybody thought of rerouting the pipe to drip onto the chain ? Not that i'ma tight arse but it just seems a waste ,free chain oiler and i love messing about !!! Phil

There is a bung in the end of the drain pipe to keep the airbox sealed. The drain runs out of the clean-air side of the airbox, so to allow the oil to drip on to the chain would need some form of one way valve that lets oil out, but doesn't let air in. This is compounded by the fact that the air pressure in the drain tube would be lower than the outside air pressure, so the natural flow would be inward.

I've had an issue with my overflow this weekend.
I did an oil change last weekend and filled her to the brim. All was well but this weekend i did the ABR Ullapool rally so 1340 miles in a weekend and she is blowing oil out. The tube filled up so i took the bung out..yes i know it's meant to be in there but it was filling so quickly that i was worried about it filling the airbox. So it chucked out oil all over my stand and back tyre...nice. This weekend it has chucked out about just under 2cm on the dipstick. The oil that is coming out is so clean that i could put it back in. Did i overfill it? Have i damaged something? I will put the bung back in tonight and see what happens but is this oil loss normal. Mike |

No need, there is plenty of space in the lower part of the airbox, you could easily get 0.75 litre in there before it damages the airfilter, maybe 1.5l if you have an oil primed air filter (K&N or DNA)
It does sound possible. The whole oil top-up thing is a bit of a faf in the Tenere, with having a semi-dry sump - if you didn't follow the rules then it is easy to overfill. Difficult to say. The roads aren't particularly dusty so you may be OK. I would be looking for dirt inside the airbox. no dirt = probably no damage, if there's is grit'n sand in there then you may damage your engine. Hard to say without taking it apart. Is there oil fumes coming from tour exhaust ? That's a good indication that something is wrong. While you have your airbox sides off, grease the seals, a few early bikes had bad seals and let in some dust. You will see how much space there is in there for the oil overflow too. I generally coat the inside of the airbox, very lightly, with oil. Just in case any dust'n crap gets in there, sort of a last line of defense. It also gives a check to ensure the airflow is clean.

When I can be bothered I'll order the updated breather box that keeps oil out of the breather tube....in the meantime you might want to do what I've done with mine,i.e. cut it quite short(just about where the metal support loop that it runs through is)
If you hit dirt and rock and the bung gets pulled off (due to it's long length)then you'll be riding along with the engine sucking in un filtered air from the road or dusty trails. So,taking all that into account if the tube was open, extended and routed to the chain,it would still be sucking in un filtered air. Just on that air box Phil....if you take the side off,put a layer of grease on the seal to keep it airtight. It's not the best and I've seen others with a layer of light dust in the air box due to it not being airtight. I also spray air filter oil onto my air box sides so as to trap any dust that can ever make it's way it. If you've already done this before un read my post lol .
