Warranty when mounting mods and enhancements

I have a question about warranty when mounting for example mods and enhancements on the bike.

I have purchased Kevs O2 mod and fuel mod and a DNA filter and I got the local dealer to mount it when I had the bike in for a 20 k service last week. But they wouldnt do it at all in the first place and I had to do a lot of persuading to get them to do it. And they told me that the warranty would not be good any more, just forget the warranty if you mount that stuff on your bike they said...
They had a another bike similar bike (Tenere) in at the same time as mine with a strange noise from the engine and the owner of that bike had only replaced the air filter - but they claimed the warranty was gone on that bike just because of a replaced unoriginal air filter. And true enough - the bike was removed from the dealer without repair a few days later....

So is the warranty really gone now from my bike when Kevs O2 mod, fuel mod and a DNA filter is mounted?

Does this mods in any way affect of the "life span" of this kind of engine?

Excuse my bad English......

Regards from Snakeboy

The sensible thing to do if you've fitted an aftermarket filter and your engine starts to make a horrible rattle, is to put the stock one back on before you take it back to the dealer for the warranty assessment.

The manufacturer can only really refuse to honour the warranty if they can prove that the aftermarket part fitted has directly contributed to the problem. For example, if you fit a Kev Mod and your frame cracks, I don't think they would have grounds to refuse to fix the frame. They of course might try and wriggle out of it though!

Warranty....Yamaha warranty....yamaha dealers....tell me more!!!

I Will not buy a brand new bike anymore!!!!

The premium you pay purchasing new bike is that if something goes wrong with it you can take it back to the dealer to sort out the problem under warranty (yes I know not everything is covered...).

In real life they (the dealer) do not allow you to touch any bolt on your bike...etc as it might affect the warranty blah blah blah...

When you come back with something i.e. rusted brake lever, broken clutch cable etc. they FIRST try to look for anything (sometimes very silly excuses) to say No its not cover by the warranty because of this or that blah, blah, blah....WTF

It happened to me with my new Yamaha and it happened to us with new car as well!!!!

Buy decent/good bike second hand, fit whatever mod you want onto it and do as much work on it as you like.

I worked for Suzuki & Yamaha for more than a decade running busy motorcycle workshops, as a responsible repairer you would look at the warranty claim & WORK OUT WHAT FAILED & WHY, these guys saying you have no warranty because you have fitted an after market parts are just trying scare tactics.

I bet you my full months wage that the dealers show room is full of after market parts including aftermarket filters, power commanders, exhausts ETC, as mentioned the problem of not been a warranty job would need to be determined to what actually failed if the aftermarket part caused the failure then I agree not under warranty. Any good dealer will do his best for the customer that is what I do for my 100 od customers a day I have running through my service department.

Over the past 7 years that I have been selling my mods around the world I have not had one single claim rejected by Yamaha with my mods installed on a bike.

A Yamaha dealer here in Australia sell my O2 controller & fuel mods in their show room + KTM dealers also promote my O2 controllers, from yesterdays ebay sale.

Q: hey mate I have a 2013 690 smcr, I sorted out the surging by installing an EVO1 breather kit but my bike keeps stalling at low revs. would the o2 controller help with this problem? the boys at KTM team moto Virginia have said they highly recommend your product for the surging but unsure on stalling out at low revs. cheers mate. 07-Sep-13 A:

The O2 controller will correct the closed loop A/F ratio no matter what map or mod is fitted, the O2 controller has sorted a 2013 SD from stalling after fitting a EVO breather kit & free flow pipe. KTM run the closed loop mapping at idle as well so yours would be lean & might be the reason that it is stalling, if it is lean & that is the cause the controller should correct the lean idle A/F ratio. You are welcome to pop over to my house tomorrow to buy one & it if does not fix the stalling or you are not happy with the O2 controller mod I will give you your money back. Cheers Kev

It's all down to your relationship with the dealer and how you approach things,I bought my XT with 590 miles on the clock it hadn't even had a first service I wasn't remotely bothered about the warranty and it's never been anywhere near a dealer because the chances of me ever needing a warranty were slim.

The complete opposite I have a K1200 BM it takes some looking after to the point I even run it on an official BM warranty because when they go wrong it's big bucks!!!,BUT it's not stock I run it with carbon fibre wheels after market suspension with a DNA filter and an Akra pipe,my other bikes I look after myself this goes to a shop they know me and vice versa in fact while I have 3 BM dealers within 50 miles of where I live,it's a 250 mile round trip just to drop the bike off they know that and I'm looked after accordingly the fact it's got loads of after market goodies effects nothing.

But the reality is simple you run a non stock bike and you have a good chance of having the plug pulled on you,it's more down to do you need it(warranty) or do you care.

Its very true but in real life the dealer is nice saying blah, blah, blah yes, no problem all is covered under warranty when he wants to sell the product (i.e bike/car)...once you paid your money and come back later with some issues with the bike/car...hes not so nice anymore!!

I dont say every dealer is like this and, as you said, he should do his best for his customers...maybe its just my bad luck - dont know?
