The whole thing is missing
Here's an odd thing. My lower chain tensioner (xt660x 2005) has completely gone. No not just the roller cushion the whole lot including the bracket. This bracket is welded to the frame upon which a spindle sits then the cushion roller and retaining nut etc.
So I will be speaking with Yammy tomorrow to see what can be done, but as the main bracket is welded to the frame I do believe it's not a part they can supply. The chain just misses the pipes when running but does make the odd chime when shifting down gears down. Makes a lovely grating sound when pushing backwards to park in my drive. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was your solution?

You must have gradually worn out the spindle to smitherins and then when there was no more spindle the chain must have started to cut into the spindle bracket, and that together with the vibrations would have worked the whole thing loose to the point where it must have come off all together.
I can only assume that by now your chain must be fugged too. |

Have you got shorter dog bones to raise the rear? This puts a lot more strain on the roller, as does a larger rear sprocket?
There was a thread a while back about mashed up lower rollers, but I don't recall broken brackets. However, it does give some insight into possible mods to prevent it happening in the future. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=7646 For now though, I guess you'll have to get a bracket made up and welded in place, which is a bit of a ball ache, but do-able. |

you`re not alone badga:
this guy`s mecanic invented a spring loaded bolt on solution http://www.xt-660.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13801 other case: http://www.xt-660.de/forum/viewtopic...t=4441&start=0 we recently did have various similar cases in the german forum. Options: weld a new bracket to the frame or make your own construction from angle and fix it with with the 2 screws of the boot protector (no welding) Interesting is the fact, that it only seems to happen on XTX`es good luck, Joe

Gents, thanks for the quick replies, Larry (the bike, it's a long story lets not go there) has done just under 46000 miles. No mods to that area so no extra stress involved. Joe I will use google translate to see what this chap has done but the bolt idea sounds best to me, as I already had it welded once. I wonder if i can get away with just losing a link out of the chain altogether.
