Just to let anyone know who's interested that the Yamaha Worldcrosser is going into production !! as reported in Motorcycling Monthly and Yamaha europe website.. Yee ha, pity im skint..

THE new XT1200Z Worldcrosser, first seen as a concept bike at the NEC Motorcycle Live show back in 2010, will be launched in March this year.


A limited edition model with traction control, ABS, linked brakes and shaft drive (the same as on the current XT1200Z Super T�n�r�), also gets lightweight carbon goodies that include side panels, fork protectors and frame guards, plus a black anodised alloy bash plate, drive shaft shield and rear brake protector.

The Worldcrosser comes in either black speed block with yellow/gold or red speed block and will cost �12,999 – contact your local Yamaha dealer for more information.

...hmm...if you like GS's that's the bike for you but not the off-roader at all!!

I think they will struggle with this the same as with the other 'special editions' of this bike.

It's just too expensive and doesn't have any real advantage over any other bike. If the buyers are road riders, looking for long distance ability, then the Honda Crossrunner comes in at �9200, the Varadero (despite it's looks is a peach of a long distance bike) at �9k, then there is the new Kwacker Versys below the �10k mark.

For off-road ability, and it does have some as we've seen, you are still looking at spending ����'s to get it to an acceptable standard, and there aren't many riders would take a �12k bike off-road. But lets face it, you could buy a new Honda or Kawasaki and still have enough left over for a decent off-road bike.

Yamaha have been going in the wrong direction in the last few years, they need to rethink, not re-colour..... In my opinion anyway..

each to their own; but why didnt Yamaha use the 900cc engine from the TDM and make a KTM beater (powerful, light and fun off road) not a GS clone.

agree with all other comments so many alternative bikes out there that offer the same or more for less money.

I do like the looks and having ridden a GS if that was the kind of bike I was after and could afford I would buy the Yam.

suprised they have never offered the little Ten in a limited edition with lots of extras but again their over pricing must have lost them sales to other makes.

But yes, as others have pointed out - this is nothing like the Worldcrosser concept bike, it's just a stock XT1200Z with a few carbon extras and some stickers... ok, it might come with TKC80 tyres too...

I know that Touratech were looking at producing what would essentially be a 'worldcrosser' kit, which at least would take a stock bike closer to the concept original (rear tank, luggage system etc.) but like a lot of things in this current economic climate, it's on a go slow...

As GULGo points out, there are a lot of other 'all road' style bikes out there at the moment, all significantly cheaper, and as we all know from the 4x4 SUV market, hardly any of these things ever go anywhere near the dirt, and certainly not what you'd call 'proper' off-road... (except for Touratech UKs demonstrator perhaps - have you seen the video of Nick Plumb nailing the Super Ten' in Wales?!)

When you can pick up a new or ex-demo Super Ten for around �10K these days (well you could until George White went under), then �3K looks like a lot money for stickers and carbon?

To make the comparison with BMW, The stock XT1200Z (spoked wheels, big tank, TC and ABS as standard) was always more 'Adventure' spec in comparison to a stock 1200GS, so I don't know why they need to dress it up with stuff from the accessory catalogue...

They'll be doing an official "Nick Sanders" edition next!

As for the bike, meh, for reasons others have mentioned. Even the original concept bike didn't make much sense. The production reality is just the proverbial tart's handbag.
