Quick question about service intervals on the XTX.

I purchased my bike as a trade in with about 2,700 km on the clock. In Australia the shop will get you back in for an initial service at 1,000km (which I assume was done by the previous owner). Upon being traded in the bike would have also been serviced and inspected prior to being put in the show room. I've now done about 6,300 km on it and was wondering when I should get her serviced again?

Going to take it to a new shop becuse the previous one faild to fix a minor coolant leak and are generally clueless.

Regardless of what Yamaha's owner booklet says (a full service should be done every 6000 miles or 10'000 kilometres) however and this depends very much on how you use your bike, if you are a "weekend only / fair weather rider then that every 6000 miles / 10000 km is ok. But those of us who go to work and back and use it every day for both necessity and leisure, basically have only come off the bike to eat and sleep i.e. have realized that the oil wears out pretty damn quick, and therefore we need an interim oil & oil filter change at least every 3000 miles.

if you are in between a fair weather rider and a frequent rider the best thing for you to do is check the oil level often and if you see it coming down at every 2000 miles then change it at 3000 for a fresh 2.9 litres and oil filter too. Believe me the heart of these bikes longevity is the correct oil level / quality, ignore that and you will be looking at an expensive engine repair / rebuilt.

you said these bikes require 3.9lts of engine oil...
But the owners manual says 2.6lts with oil filter change....

Sorry it is indeed 2.90 from a completely drain sump, it was a typing error. I will edit my post.

The manual says:

If you do less than 6000 miles or 10000Km an a year, then you should really be changing your oil annually, regardless of mileage. Don't just wait for 6K/10K to tick round if it's going to be a long time. Never have oil in a motor for more than 12 months, even if you've only done a dozen miles at a dawdling pace!

Thanks everyone! Got it done just to be safe. They fixed a coolant leak I had and she's running great.

Bike has never missed a beat and I'm looking forward to many more miles on it. gonna get a dyno tune shortly so I can extract max performance ;-)
