At last!! Scotland here I come.

Hi Guys,
one more sleep and i am off on my hols to the bitter north. Avoiding motorways and taking all the advice from 'Ride' what the best roads in Scotland i planned 12 days to get back home to Bodmin in Corwall. Will take loads of photos and film bits and pieces for all to see.
Any Northern lights happening up there? Its on my to 'to see' list. Else it will have to wait till next year.
On my way back i have to pop into Hove to see my son. How does that fit into Scotland? i hear you say? You'll see!

Till then

Rob

Not likely to see any of the above at this time of year. It's quite light till quite late up here still, so thats a little problem.
They mainly occur during the Autumn & Winter months (something to do with ice crystals in the upper atmosphere further north than Scotland), so I'm afraid your timings a bit out.

Just my mutterings.

Hi,

Shetland is a good place to see them - head up there later in the year and you stand a better chance - mind you being there on the right night is the tricky bit! Saw them a few times on nice chilly clear nights.

Just got back today. Thank you Scotland! Had a fantastic trip. You guys are sooo spoilt!
Mind you, the best road on the way up was in North Devon, Lynton to Porlock, awsome.
Best pass in the Lake District, up and down Kirkstone Pass.
Thing in Scotland is, it just keeps coming, so much of it. Brilliant.
Got to John O'Groats and thought: Did i really come all the way for this? Shame on you, its a dump. Avoid, Dunnet head much better.
Pics coming soon.

Glad you had a good time........ but.

As for the lakes, you've been sold short. Kirkstone is a great ride but not the best. Come back up here next year and you'll see much more with the right information.

Agree with you on JOG though.

I will be back next year and i seemed to miss all the rain. wherever i got to bikers came the other way warning me of the tropical down pours down the road. When i got there it was dry and lovely. Too hot if anything.
And i saw plenty of lakes! Can't really get away from them.
Who were the two Teneres going the other way along the coast route just off Applecross? One white one red i think. Anybody from here?

We were up that way last week, 2 up . a mix of weather, but we have never riden through rain as heavy on the way home

That said we had a great week, it's been a few years since we were last in that part of Scotland, we wont leave it that long next time.
