Possible new Product for Tenere

Hi guys,

Down at Metal Mule we are thinking about Developing a 2 into 1 exhaust for the 660 Tenere. If that sounds like a good idea give us some feed back!

Apologies if I've posted in the wrong section. Been a very hectic couple of weeks! If a helpful mod could move it if that is needed that would be great!

2 into 1 ???

But the Tenere is a sigle can system........ It 'looks' like 2 pipes, but it is only one, with two outlets.

I know you guys are normally competitors, but can I suggest this as an idea to consider :

Speak to MTC, and come up with a joint product, so you get the MTC can, with some Metal Mule toolbox/tube product that uses the space under the seat ??

I only ask as I wonder if you could produce and sell a can at the same sort of that MTC charge. And I'm not sure if the market for these would be enough to return your investment and opperating costs.

To my mind, that would be a good solution, but happy for someone to shoot it down.

Interesting Idea about the tool tube. It guess I didn't explain it right, but I think you get the idea of only having one exhaust ratther than two. But would that be a mod that would be worth while?

Yes, it is a fine idea. a look around the forums will show that most Tenere owners were crying out for a single can option, since 2008. Earlier this year MTC answered.

My point above (and I did get what you were asking initially) is that there is already a single can option available, so unless you can compete on pricing it's not going to be financially viable for you (yes thats your choice not mine I agree). But what people are looking for now is a way to exploite the space under the seat, which is why I suggested you work with a current solution to give people what they want.

People will always look for choice, but talks, and a can is a can at the end of the day. It's never going to have huge performance differences on a 50hp bike and the sound is going to be very similar too. So to be viable you would need to be selling it at under 200 to compete.

It's nice to see suppliers answering the customers with solutions to issues they have, rather than some suppliers providing solutions to problems they invent (such as the TT rectifier protection plate that bolts to the steel mounting plate - pointless!). A tool tube/box thingame would be a solution to customer issue, in my view.

Cheers for the reply, something to fill the gap sounds like an idea! You have a very nice bike by the way!

Any thing else you would like for you Tenere?

ok i am crying out for a single can. but i realy don't like the way the can sits on the bike as per all twin cans or single can as per the mtc one above.
they just don't flow nicely with the line of the bike. if you could make one that did then i buy one tomorrow. well as long as the price is realistic as i'm not going to fork out 500 odd quid.
  • single can following orginal lines of bike
  • underseat storage mod (see other thread on this forum for someone elses attempt)
  • or tool tube on other side of bike.
  • tail tidy that uses original rear led light but gets rid of masive plastic hanger.
  • 18inch rear wheel (lightweight cos the std one is massive cast item)
  • twin disc 21inch front (again lightweight)
  • fully adjustable rear shock
  • re-work front forks to allow full damping adjustment or a kit to take a WR front end (twin disc though)
  • Lightweight bolts that hold the tank in place (front of the tank, massive long mild steel jobs) - have you felt their weight!

My short list:
Mod to turn off the ABS when going offroad!
Sturdy handguards with big wind deflectors - with a *proper* fit!
Pretty rear rack with lots of strapping options

Have a look on the X Racing website.

You can buy a single pipe in a variety of finishes and a matching empty can to go with it. Add a couple of end caps and there you are!!
