Cool What to check

Going to look at a Tenere soon and was wondering what the XTZ collective thought one would need to check specifically on a 660 Tenere when checking it over? Apart from the colour, of course

I've read up on this site about known weakness - reg/rec connection and cush drives, but what else can be checked when out tyre kicking?

I await your thoughts with interest

The usual bar ends and pegs for signs of an off. Chech the spokes are all there and OK. The cush drive will either be knackered now or later, so just assume you can fix that.

There is a modified air box on later models, so have a look on the forum for that.

Reg/rec connector check inside for signs of self destruction.

Otherwise if it sounds OK and rides straight you should be fine..

I have so many non standard bits on my 59 plate Ten' that a conventional once over is all you can sensibly do.

Assume the air box/AIS/fuelling/exhaust etc etc are all standard?

If you're anything like me when buying a 2nd hand bike, it comes home and gets taken to bits anyhow!!

Good luck - pic's needed..

Hi & thanks for the reply. All good stuff.
Glad I'm not the only one that takes a bike to bits as soon as it's in the garage. It's the only way, to my simple mind, to find out what has & hasn't been done to a bike. Plus, once it's all back together, I know how it comes to bits again and that all the bolts that need it have had a good coating of copperslip.

If I do the deed, I will post up some piccies. Thats a big IF though

its worth checking for play in the head bearings and wheel bearings
on any bike i suppose .. but particualary one with off road ability

your right about the rectifier ..

the only niggles ive had is misting clocks due to them being loose
and the rear indicators filling with water

other than that its been great

i cant keep away from mud though he he

I had a sneaking suspicion that 2nd gear was a bit flaky or could be down to needing a good shift but either way mine had jumped out of 2nd more times than I'd have liked it too and ift didnt do it in any other gear .
